I keep a variety of stones and crystals on my altar. Yes, they have function, but also because I love the way they look.
That’s really the first thing I take into account. It doesn’t matter if the stone or crystal is capable of warding off the apocalypse, if it doesn’t please me aesthetically its ability and power will be diminished.
For that reason I usually work them by hand. Tumblers may produce a nice smooth shiny bauble, but it is done completely at random, with no opportunity to really look at each one and savor them. In hand working the stone and really paying attention to what it already is, the final form and meaning just naturally arise.
